Astral sand filter

Postby fatmoggy104 » Mon 13 Sep, 2010 07:58

Hi can anybody help.
I have a Astral sand filter & Multi valve system
Closed off the Valves & the muti valve to off and took the lid off the sand filter to look inside but the water started coming out of the sand filter & would not stop. I managed to get the lid back on but i don't get why the water came rushing out. What if anything am i doing wrong

Is the filter above or below the water level of the pool? (Do you have and AGP or an inground?)

In an inground pool, the filter is usually the highest point of the system. You must have some pipes that are higher than the filter for water to be coming out. Once the water is drained from those, it will not come out the filter.

I also see no reason to close any valves. The water will drain back into the pool if you leave the valves open and you will then be able to inspect/clean your sand without water in the filter

Thanks for that yes the pipes are higher than the filter but it seemed like a awful lot of water coming out. a good 6 inches in the bottom of the pump box then i gave up and put the lid back on. I will try it again.

Leave all the valves open and crack (turn) the filter top slowly and I think you will find it will suck air and the vast majority of the water will drain back to the pool.
