I shock treated the pool with chlorine today and the water turned to a redish brown color within 20 minutes. What might cause such a reaction?
Any help on this is highly appreciated and thank you

Red-brown pool water
Sounds like iron in the water. Shocking with chlorine will oxidise all the iron to "rust" which then settles for easy vacuuming.
Have your water checked for iron, which may eventually leave nasty stains on the pool's surface if not controlled.
